Presenting the inspiration behind our new collection’s floral motifs, pastel shades and regal sensuality.
The Ain-e-Akbari, written by Abul Fazl during the Mughal emperor Akbar’s reign, talks about the fine weaves of Chanderi. Legend has it that chanderi was once gifted to emperor Akbar in the hollow of a bamboo stick. When drawn out, this finely woven fabric was enough to cover an elephant. Such was the finesse of this fabric.
“It’s a bit like Ravi Varma with a contemporary twist,”
Traditional decorative elements mixed with detailed craftsmanship, capturing a mood of modernity and grandeur.”
“I have always been drawn to the subtle charm of Chanderi textiles. The elegance of Indian royal women portrayed in paintings were the starting point of this collection. Gayathri Devi and Chimnabai II came to my mind during the design process.”
